Common questions

Where did my deleted photos go? Can I get them back?

They're in Recently Deleted in the Photos app, where you can restore them. Photo Delete never permanently erases anything itself — it hands the deletion to the system, which keeps items recoverable for a period before removing them for good.

I deleted something by mistake — what now?

Nothing is deleted until you open the review screen and confirm. Before that, tap undo to take back your last decision, or open the review screen and tap the ✕ on any item to remove it from the list.

If you already confirmed, open Photos → Albums → Recently Deleted and restore it from there.

Does deleting here also delete from iCloud and my other devices?

Yes, if you use iCloud Photos. Photo Delete removes items from your photo library, and iCloud Photos syncs that removal to every device signed in to the same account — exactly as deleting in the Photos app would. They stay in Recently Deleted until that period expires.

Why does it skip photos I've already seen?

That's intentional. The app remembers everything you've made a decision about, so you can stop and come back without reviewing the same photo twice. The progress percentages on each album, media type and month show how far you've got.

How do I start over?

Open the menu on the first screen and choose Reset All Stats. That marks everything unreviewed again so you can go through your whole library from scratch. It does not touch your photos — only the record of what you've reviewed.

What does the heart button do?

It marks the photo or video as a favourite in the Photos app — the same as favouriting it there — and keeps it. If something is already a favourite, the heart appears filled when it comes up.

How do I free up the most space quickly?

Use the sort button and choose Largest First. Videos and large photos come up first, so you reclaim more storage per decision. The review screen shows exactly how much you'll free before you confirm.

How do the video controls work?
The app can't see my photos

Photo Delete needs permission to read your library. On iPhone, go to Settings → Apps → Photo Delete → Photos and choose Full Access. On Mac, System Settings → Privacy & Security → Photos.

If you granted limited access, the app can only see the photos you selected.

Is any of this sent anywhere?

No. There are no accounts, no analytics, and the app doesn't use a network connection at all. Your photos never leave your device. See the privacy policy for details.

Before a big clear-out: make sure your photos are backed up, whether via iCloud Photos or your own backup. Deleting is easy to do quickly, and a backup is the only real safety net.
